1. James FRANKLIN-494 was born about 17671 in Berkshire2. He was buried on 20 Dec 1842 in Cholsey, Berkshire1.
James was recorded in the 1841 census (June 7) as an agricultural labourer with wife Hanna and an unidentified Emma FRANKLIN, aged 20, in Cholsey, Berkshire 2.
If James was 75 when he was buried in 1842, then he was born 1766/77. However, in the 1841 census - taken 18 months before he died - he was recorded as 60, which, if correct, would mean he was born between 1776 and 1781 and was aged between 13 and 18 when he married.

Still checking surrounding parishes for the baptism of a James FRANKLIN in approximately 1767 (if his age at burial is to be believed).

James married Hannah COX-495, daughter of William COX-516 and Sarah WILLOWBY-517, on 6 May 1794 in Cholsey, Berkshire 1. Hannah was baptised on 21 Sep 1777 in Cholsey, Berkshire 2. She was buried on 5 Apr 1848 in Cholsey, Berkshire 3.
Hannah was recorded as aged 60 in the 1841 census (= born between 1776 and 1781) and 69 when she was buried (= born 1778/79). In fact, she must have been born even earlier, since she was baptised 21 Sep 1777 (a Sunday).
Using her date of baptism as a starting point, Hannah was at least 16 years 7 months and 15 days old when she married (Tuesday, 6 May 1794) and at least 70 years 6 months and 15 days old when she was buried (Wednesday, 5 Apr 1848).5 Apr 1848).
Marriage Notes:
James & Hannah married by licence. However, I have been told that there is no reference to their marriage in the Berkshire Archdeaconry marriage bonds index or the Salisbury marriage bonds index (both at BRO). Neither is the marriage recorded in Donnette Stringham Smith's transcription of Oxfordshire Archdeacon's Marriage Bonds.
James and Hannah had the following children.
2 M i Thomas FRANKLIN-496 was born on 31 Aug 1794 1. He was baptised on 14 Sep 1794 in Cholsey, Berkshire 1.
This Thomas seems to have disappeared without trace. Might be worth going through the 1841 and 1851 censuses (not just Cholsey) again to see if he can be found. There was a Thomas recorded as a witness at the marriage of an Emma FRANKLYN in 1848; perhaps it's the same one? (1848 May 6 FREEMAN X James f.a. widower.o.t.p. lab. s.
